સોમવાર એ અઠવાડિયાનો બીજો દિવસ છે. અઠવાડિયામાં કુલ સાત દિવસ હોય છે. સોમવાર પહેલાંનો દિવસ રવિવાર તેમ જ સોમવાર પછીનો દિવસ મંગળવાર હોય છે.
સંસ્કૃતમાં સોમવારને (इन्दुवासरम्) થી ઓળખવામાં આવે છે. દુનિયાની મોટાભાગની ભાષાઓમાં આ વારનાં નામનો અર્થ 'ચંદ્રનો વાર' તેવો થાય છે, અમુક ભાષાઓમાં તેનો અર્થ 'રવિવાર પછીનો' અને અમુકમાં 'પ્રથમ દિવસ' તેવો અર્થ પણ થાય છે. હિંદુ ધર્મના લોકોમાં સોમવારના દિવસે શિવજીના દર્શન અને પૂજા કરવાનો તેમ જ ઉપવાસ (એકટાણું) કરવાનો અનેરો મહિમા છે. એમાં પણ વિશેષ કરીને શ્રાવણ મહિનામાં સોમવારનું ધાર્મિક મહત્વ અત્યંત વધારે હોય છે.
सोमवार सप्ताह का एक दिन है। यह रविवार के बाद और मंगलवार से पहले आता है। सोमवार का यह नाम सोम से पड़ा है जिसका अर्थ भगवान शिव होता है। यह सप्ताह का दूसरा दिन होता है, भारत तथा विश्व के कई देशों में यह सामान्य कामकाज का प्रथम दिन होता है इसलिए कभी कभार इसे सप्ताह का प्रथम दिन भी कहते हैं।
Monday is the second day of the week. There are total seven days in a week. The day before Monday is Sunday and the day after Monday is Tuesday.
Monday is known as (Induvasaram) in Sanskrit. In most languages of the world, the name of this time means 'moon time', in some languages it means 'after Sunday' and in some it also means 'first day'. Among the people of Hinduism, there is another glory of seeing and worshiping Lord Shiva on Monday as well as fasting (Ektana). Also, especially in the month of Shravan, the religious significance of Monday is very high.
